It’s a favorite annual event in Mary Esther, FL and it’s back this Saturday! The 2018 Veterans Day Parade will start November 10th at 1:00 P.M. and run through the city until 2:00 P.M. The theme of this year’s parade is “Honoring All Who Served.”
What You Need To Know About the Veterans Day Parade
If you plan to participate in the parade, be sure that your registration packet has been completed and turned in. Also, you’ll need to check in at the registration table behind the theater and be in your assigned spot no later than 12:40 P.M. The parade will conclude as entrants re-enter the mall parking lot.
The City of Mary Esther also has some rules that you need to be aware of for this year’s Veterans Day Parade per the event website:
- Your registration form, a hold harmless certificate, and proof of liability insurance must have been turned in to the City of Mary Esther by November 2, 2018.
- No alcoholic beverages will be permitted on any float or unit in the parade or anywhere along the parade route.
- All marching bands must have three adults accompany the band on each side throughout the parade route to help with formation and separation from spectators.
- Due to the potential liability, only soft candy or trinkets need to be thrown along the parade route.
The History of Veterans Day
According to the website History.com, Veterans Day traces its origins back to Armistice Day on November 11, 1919, which was the first anniversary of the end of World War I. In 1926, Congress passed legislation to make it an annual observance. Then in 1938, November 11 of every year became a national holiday. Veterans Day honors all American veterans whether or alive or passed away.
