It’s a brand-new year and there is no time like the present to start putting yourself first. It’s time to live your best life! Often, we all get carried away with trying to change too many aspects of our lives at once, but the truth is, that one small change at a time can help the new habit be more manageable. Today, we’re going to share some tips on how to create your best mental and physical state.

Sleep

Getting optimal sleep is such an important aspect of being the best you can be. Humans spend a third of their lifetime sleeping, which makes it even more important to get eight or more hours of sleep so you can wake up feeling well-rested. Short and interrupted sleep cycles will cause you to wake up sleepy, groggy, and probably in a negative mindset. Try to keep a consistent sleep schedule by choosing a time to go to bed every night, as well as a wake-up time that will give you at least eight hours of sleep.

Get Moving

Everyone has different ways they like to move their body and be physically active. Maybe you like to work out in the morning, but maybe you don’t. Either way, you should try getting your body moving when you wake up. Five minutes of stretching or dolphin planks are a great way to start moving when you wake up. Or, even simpler, take a short walk each day.

Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it gets your metabolism started and fuels your body. Even if you aren’t super hungry in the morning, try finding something small to fuel your day. Pack your breakfast with some sort of protein and carb combination. Starting the day with a filling breakfast is sure to make you feel satisfied throughout the day.

Relax

Don’t forget to relax throughout the day. Sometimes life gets so busy we forget to stop and smell the roses. Even short breaks throughout your day can help. Whether this is a short walk at lunchtime, sitting in the sun, or listening to some music, this will give you time to energize and refocus.
