The Emerald Coast Science Center in Fort Walton Beach turns 30 this year, and it has some big surprises in store. The center is hosting a birthday bash March 9, complete with hors d’oeuvres, live music, and art by local artists. (Get your tickets here.) The event is open to those 21 and up, but throughout the year the ECSC has loads to enjoy for all ages, from the young to the young at heart.
Making Science Fun for Everyone
Science Center visitors can find a wealth of educational exhibits, with family-friendly interactive exhibits designed to encourage learning together. The diverse offerings guarantee that every visit means the opportunity to learn something entirely new. The ECSC’s 2019 exhibits include activities in:
- Robotics
- Engineering, Physics, and Electricity
- Color and Light
- SMALLab Learning (courtesy of Impact 100 of Northwest Florida)
- Creature Features and Chemo Demos (courtesy of the Gulf Power Foundation)
- Mini Makers and Experimenters Lab
- CHEM (Creativity Happens with Engaged Minds!) Lab
- DREAMS (Design, Research, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Science) Lab
You can also meet the family of donated and rescued animals at the center, such as Sigmund the cockatiel, Henry and Lawrence the guinea pigs, and Sammi the box turtle. Feeling brave? Stop by and say hello to Lucy the red-tailed boa and Alexander the rose hair tarantula!
