Sunday, March 20 is the first day of spring, and you know what that means – it’s time for a deep clean! Although, spring cleaning involves far more than wiping down the baseboards, treating your countertops, and mopping the floors. It’s time you head outdoors. Your flower beds are dead, the yard hasn’t been attended to in months, and the gutters are full of debris, so check out these tips for getting your home ready for warmer weather!
Inspect the Gutters
No one wants to deal with flooding or improper drainage during the ongoing spring showers. It’s time you hop on a ladder and clean out those gutters full of the fall and winter leaves and debris.
Soil it Up
If you want your yard to survive the spring showers, you have to feed it. Fill in the low areas in your yard with soil. Not only will this keep your grass from turning into a soppy, wet, and muddy mess, but it will also keep the bugs away.
Freeze Damage
While it hardly ever drops below freezing in Florida, you never know when you are going to wish you would have been prepared. When the temperatures are dropping low, you should let the faucets drip to prevent the pipes from freezing. To test the faucets, turn it on, then place your finger over the opening. If the pressure of your finger is stopping the water from coming out, chances are there’s some damage. Time to call in for some professional backup!
It’s Time for Yard Work
You probably took some time off from yard work this past winter, but before you know it, it’ll be time to get back into the swing of things. Make sure your equipment is gas upped and clean. Also, be sure the blades are sharpened if needed.
