Every March, the streets of Pensacola become saturated with green. Between the runners and their supporters, you might think you’re in Dublin.
Whether you’re joining in on the run or simply coming to join the party, read on to find out more about the McGuire’s 41st Annual 5k Prediction Run.
What’s a Prediction Run?
If you’ve never done a prediction run before, it’s not hard to understand. When you register for the race, you’ll include a prediction on how long it will take you to run or walk the 3.1-mile course. The top runners per age group to most accurately guess their finish time will receive prizes. And even if you don’t win, you’ll be able to say you participated in the largest prediction run in the country!
Times will be registered via your Timing Bib chip. The use of watches and other timing devices is considered to be an unfair advantage and will result in disqualification.
About the St. Patrick’s Day Run
While themed in green, the race does not actually take place on St. Patrick’s Day. Instead, you’ll be running on Saturday, March 10 from 9 a.m. to noon.
The race starts and finishes at McGuire’s Irish Pub in Downtown Pensacola. You’ll have one hour to run or walk the 5k. If you’re straggling at the end, the McGuire’s bus will pick up you.
Registration can be done online, and it’s just $30. If you’re late to the game, you can still register on race day for $35 from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m., but please note that registration will close at 8 a.m. sharp.
Once you’ve registered, pick up your Packet on Friday, March 9 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. or on race day from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. There you’ll receive your disposable Timing Bib and a McGuire’s 5k run shirt.
Awards and Parties
More than 100 trophies and awards are given out once the race ends. These include age group awards, prediction awards, best costume awards, speed awards, team speed awards, sharpest military formation, and more.
If you have your ID on you when you register, you can get a Party Wristband that will give you access to alcoholic beverages at the post-race party.
Speaking of parties, this is one you won’t want to miss. Before the race, runners will enjoy bagels by Bagelheads, juice, fruit, donuts, and coffee. Afterward, take advantage of Irish fare, Bud Light, and McGuire’s red and soft drinks. There will also be live entertainment with Rich McDuff’s Irish-Sing-Along.
The party ends promptly at noon. Outside alcohol, coolers, and dogs are not permitted.
