Nissan’s done it again! The ProPILOT Assist system was revealed in Michigan today after cross-country driving, 50k to be exact, and testing in different types of traffic, both heavy and evenly flowing. The New ProPILOT Assist technology reduces the hassle of stop-and-go driving by helping control acceleration, braking and steering during single-land highway driving. This technology will be available later in the year.
Nissan ProPILOT Assist
This feature is not a “self-driving” feature. It combines the “hands-on” approach, Steering Assist and Intelligent Cruise Control. It’s designed to be predictive and user-friendly. Ideally, it’s used to help lessen driver fatigue and provide a confident driving experience in heavier traffic.
How Nissan ProPILOT Assist Works
With the forward-facing camera & radar, the sensors and an electronic control module provide a smooth center driving lane ride while maintaining a speed the driver has set. Actions include bringing the vehicle to a complete stop and holds it there during traffic jams. The steering assist minimizes the driver’s need for directional adjustments. However the driver’s hands must remain on the steering wheel – the steering wheel has a sensor to ensure this. If hands are not on the wheel, an alert is activated and the driver must apply pressure to the wheel.
This is an exciting development for all drivers and a great addition to Nissan’s already impeccable list of safety features. To learn more about this new feature click here or stop by Lee Nissan Fort Walton Beach to talk to one of our ProPILOT Assist Experts!
