The fascination with the crime duo has not lessened over the years. The characters of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson have now moved from pages on a book to new media. There have been countless adaptions of the original The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes stories in film, plays, and most recently are even in comic books that all seem to do very well. Many actors have played the role of Sherlock Holmes, and his continued popularity has spawned several movies and television shows. There was a huge resurgence and interest when actor Robert Downy, Jr. played the role of Sherlock Holmes in the movies, Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows.
Recent Sherlock Holmes Adaptations
Recently two new television series have once again brought Sherlock Holmes to the television screen. The first is the American series Elementary which stars Lucy Liu as Dr. Watson and Johnny Lee Miller as a New York dwelling Sherlock Holmes.
The second is the British series Sherlock starring the actor Benedict Cumberbatch who has gained worldwide fans with his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes.
Adaptations of the original books will continue to be made, and fans will continue to watch and enjoy these adaptations of their favorite detective. Fans will demand it.
