With Memorial Day coming up, you’re probably making plans for how you’re going to spend the long weekend. Why not participate in a great North Florida tradition by running or walking in the 34th Annual Memorial Day Gate To Gate Run?

About the Race

The 34th Annual Memorial Day Gate to Gate Run will take place on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27. This race is 4.4 miles long and will take place on Elgin Air Force Base.

On race day, everyone needs to be at the starting line by 6:30 a.m. Participants using wheelchairs will start their race at 6:58, followed by runners at 7 a.m., and walkers at 7:02 a.m. Everyone should be done with the race by 9:30 a.m.

The course begins and ends at Unity Park. Every runner will have a flower to drop at the Veterans’ Memorial during the race.

This is a family-friendly event, and there will also be a shorter kids’ run. It starts at the same place as the main course at 8:45 a.m.

You can even run this race as a team. There are two different divisions. The military team division has to be comprised of active duty, reserve guard, DoD civilians, contractors, or spouses assigned to the same unit. The open division is for non-military units or teams.

Register Early

Because the Memorial Day Gate to Gate Run takes place on Elgin Air Force Base, there are some special things to keep in mind when you sign up. This race is open to the public, but you need to be sure to sign up early.

Then you’ll need to pick up your packet at Elgin Fitness Center before race day. They’ll be available from May 13 to May 24 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

On race day, you’ll need to go in through the haul Road Gate on Lewis Turner Boulevard (FL-189) just north of Elgin’s West Gate. Make sure to bring your photo ID for base access.

This race is going to be so much fun and a great way for the whole family to observe Memorial Day. After you finish the run, stick around for food and drinks from sponsors and a post-race party with live entertainment.

Make sure you sign up by May 17! With all the extra logistics that go into hosting a race on a military base, they need the extra time to get everything ready. So get those running shoes ready for Memorial Day weekend.
