If you enjoy fishing and being on the water, you won’t want to miss the annual Destin Fishing Rodeo.
About the Event
The Destin Fishing Rodeo is an annual event that begins October 1 and ends October 31. The event is free for those who fish aboard boats registered in the Destin Fishing Rodeo. To participate, you must first find a registered boat. You must register 24 hours prior to weighing a fish. If you’d like to fish from the shore, you can participate by simply bringing your catch to the scale.
The Weighing Process
To determine who has the biggest catch of the day, there will be a daily weigh-in process at AJ’s Seafood & Oyster Bar from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The daily weigh-in process is free and open to the public, so be sure to bring your family and friends to see you show off your big catch!
More Ways to Participate
There are several ways you can participate in the event such as:
- Fish aboard a registered charter boat
- Fish aboard a registered private boat
- Kayak fishing
- Paddleboard fishing
- Pier, bridge, jetty fishing
- Surf and shoreline fishing
No matter which way you fish, you’re certain to enjoy the time spent with your friends and family.
Fun Events
In addition to the previously mentioned activities, there are other rodeo events throughout the month of October. For instance, every Saturday in October is Shark Saturday. The largest shark brought in each Saturday will win a cash prize.
When the rodeo comes to a close on October 31, there’s still fun to be had. On Wednesday, October 31, a Halloween on the Harbor event will take place. Wear your costume and be part of the largest Halloween party in Destin. There will even be a fireworks finale!
