Simple Steps to Quick Defogging / Defrosting Car Windows
- First, you’ll want to defog. Turn on your car’s engine and crank the defroster and heat setting all the way up. This helps to absorb excess moisture inside the car.
- Press the A/C button to activate a setting on the A/C system that uses the A/C coils to help dry the air inside the cabin faster.
- Turn off the air recirculation. Bringing in fresh air (which is cold, but dry) increases the absorption capacity and helps expedite the drying process.
- Crack the windows. Again, this helps usher in fresh air and exchange the humid air inside with the dry air outside – a transfer that speeds the drying process.
- Defrost windows. While the steps above are working their drying / defogging magic, you can use a simple solution of 2.3 cup isopropyl or rubbing alcohol combined with 1/3 cup water. This mixture in a spray bottle will quickly become your best friend in the winter. Because the alcohol won’t freeze, the solution is a great way to defrost your windshield and can be kept conveniently in your car for whenever you need it.
