Whether you’re a lifelong fan of Jane Austen or you’re just looking to take in a show, you’re in for a night of laughs and intrigue when the Emerald Coast Theatre Company performs “Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley” in Miramar Beach this month.
When and Where
The show will go on at the Emerald Coast Theatre Company’s Grand Boulevard venue. It will run December 12 through 14 and 19 through 21 at 7:30 each evening. It will also hold 2 p.m. matinees on December 15 and 22. Tickets are $32 for adults, $30 for seniors, $28 for students, and $30 for members of the military. You can order your tickets HERE. The Bennet Family on Stage
“Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley” serves as the sequel to Jane Austen’s classic novel, Pride and Prejudice. The dynamic Elizabeth Bennet returns along with her charismatic sisters, and we’ll be treated to new developments in each of their lives. The story is set two years after the events of the book, and we find Elizabeth happily married to the ever-charming Mr. Darcey. The couple now lives at Pemberley, the Darcey family’s ancestral estate. There, Elizabeth and Darcey host their families for Christmas festivities. The characteristically bookish Mary Bennet gradually emerges from her studies when another guest demonstrates a similar combination of scholarly knowledge and social awkwardness.
Something Old, Something New
Fans of Jane Austen’s subtlety, wit, and intrigue will be delighted by the play’s warm atmosphere, secret notes hidden in books, and blossoming romance. The play isn’t just a straightforward adaptation of her material, however. While the Christmas play features familiar characters from Austen’s work, much of the humor is written to resonate with 21st-century sensibilities. The cheerful banter and heartfelt dialogue imaginatively evoke the writer’s style while appealing to audiences of all ages.
