Are you tired of being stuck inside all day long? Get outside and take a hike at one of Fort Walton Beach’s gorgeous hiking trails! There’s nothing better than being outside at the beach and Fort Walton Beach is the perfect location for scenic hiking. Check out our top three places to take a hike!
Eglin Air Force Base
A military base may not sound like a good place for hiking, but Eglin Air Force Base is perfect for all kinds of fun outdoor recreation. Eglin is one of the largest military reservations on the East Coast with 640 square miles to its name. Hikers, fishers, campers, bikers, and hunters are welcome when the base is open to the public. Since Eglin is an active military base, it is closed some days to the general public due to military exercises. Check out their Public Access Map online to make sure the base is open on the days you want to go hiking. All visitors are also required to have an active annual Outdoor Recreation permit in order to experience the base, but we promise it is well worth that extra step.
Florida Trail in Northwest Florida
This beautiful trail is west of the Suwannee River and has dramatic views of the Florida coast. This area is also known as the Florida Panhandle and it contains many cute towns. Pensacola Beach, Milton, DeFuniak Springs, and Navarre are just a few of the towns along the trail. There are six different trail sections and you can’t go wrong with any of them.

Turkey Creek Walk
If you’re looking for a place for the whole family, then this trail is for you! Turkey Creek Walk is a boardwalk on the stream that drains off of Eglin Air Force Base. This lovely boardwalk stays in the shade most of the year and is the perfect place to cool off. There’s also a community gathering place where kids and adults can enjoy going for a swim.
