The U.S. Navy’s famed Blue Angels have been touring the country all year, demonstrating the incredible skill and coordination of top-notch pilots. Now they are returning to their home turf in Pensacola, and you can watch them take to familiar skies next month at the 2019 NAS Pensacola Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show!
When and Where
The 2019 NAS Pensacola Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show will occur on Friday, November 8 and Saturday, November 9. It begins at 8 a.m. both days, and should end by 4 p.m. Tickets are available HERE, and military members can receive a special discount on admission. The air show will take place over the NAS Pensacola Sherman Air Field, Pensacola, Florida 32508.
The Homecoming Air Show
The blue and gold F/A-18 Hornets known as the Blue Angels can reach supersonic speeds, and they are capable of pulling off some astounding maneuvers overhead. Their aerial acrobatics include crowd favorites like rolls, loops, and mirror formations where they may fly hull to hull, back to back, or wing to wing. The jets come as close as 18 inches apart while executing the iconic Diamond 360 Maneuver.
These air shows are always packed with action and excitement, and you may see some other amazing machines in addition to the Blue Angels. In the past, the main event has been accompanied by propeller aircraft flyovers, and the pavement below may host terrestrial wonders like Shockwave, the flame-spitting jet truck.
Highly Trained
All these aerobatic feats require extraordinary control and intense training, and the Blue Angels pilots are all highly experienced U.S. Navy and Marine aviators. To qualify for a spot in the Blue Angels lineup, a candidate must complete 120 training flights while regularly achieving milestones to show their progress. Because their high level of skill is immensely valuable to the military, these pilots typically remain in the Blue Angels for only two to four years before heading out with a regular fleet.
